Shanghai Diary Blog - Beijing 798 Art City

Beijing 798 is an incredible place, one of the landmarks of Beijing's culture and art, integrating an old factory site with the art galleries, bars, cafes, restaurants, studios and public exhibition halls. It is one of the most famous places in Beijing, and really must be seen.

Located on the site of a former factory that produced satellites and other government equipment, it has been totally renovated and taken over by the city's artists and galleries. The area is large, covering several square kilometers, and was once a small enclosed government city, comprised of factories, residences, restaurants and other facilities. It stil has most of the old (now converted) buildings, with railway tracks and an old locomotive on display. The grounds are full of art and sculpture and it is a real adventure to walk around and enjoy it all.

It is very peaceful and attractive place and offers much for everyone.
