Trashing the Truth, Part 4 - Shanghai |

These section articles on China were written in response to what appears to be a concerted attack by Hasbara - the worldwide volunteer organisation charged with the sanitisation of the public image of both Israel and of the Jews - in this case, dealing with portions of China's history that the Jews would apparently prefer to suppress. Since we published our articles on the Jews' extensive - indeed, almost exclusive - involvement in, and responsibility for, the opium trafficking in China during the 1800s and early 1900s and its consequent destructive contribution to that nation, various sympathisers have been active on internet comment boards (as for articles in newspapers) and in various other media, attempting to defuse and deflect responsibilty for these scurrilous events in Chinese history. Some of these people have gone to great lengths to exonerate the perpetrators of one of the world's greatest and longest-lasting crimes against humanity, and the quite clever attempts to completely trivialise the occurrences and to blame the victims for their own misfortune. There have been several recent articles in the English version of the Shanghai Daily, informing readers of the 'close friendhships' between the Chinese people and the Jews during the Second World War. The thread is consistent, telling us that 'China' was a great friend of the Jews during the Second War, and permitted several tens of thousands of European Jews to immigrate to Shanghai so as to escape persecution in Europe. Here is one example of an article from this paper. Play tells how a city sheltered the Jews; By Royston Chan | 2012-3-24 Original Article. "Time: World War II. The place: Shanghai, where more than 30,000 Jews were sheltered by the Chinese during the Japanese occupation - a saga now dramatized in a play that aims to highlight a little-known episode in history. Jeffrey Sichel, one of the directors, said it was not well enough known that the Chinese gave shelter to over 30,000 Jews. He further claimed that "This is the Chinese version of 'Schindler's List.'" I was really quite surprised that the Shanghai Daily would have published this article. The reason that this 'sheltering of the Jews' is 'a little-known episode in history' is because it never happened - at least not the way the article tells it. What was written was not factually correct, and this isn't the first article relating to the Jews in Shanghai that tells a false story. It is true that many Jews were brought to Shanghai from Germany and perhaps other parts of Europe during the early stages of WW II. But to claim that the "Jewish and Chinese people were united at that time because both were struggling with oppressors" is just a sick joke. The Jews were in Shanghai - a city they more or less owned completely - because of all their profits from selling opium to China. It was the Sassoon family, the Hartungs, the Kadoories, and others, who became billionnaires by about 1860 because of their opium profits, and bought up almost all of Shanghai - including all of Nanjing Road, Huaihai Road, and almost every business worth owning. It was these Jews who brought their people from Europe. It was not "China" who brought them. At the time, Shanghai was was occupied by the Japanese and was completely outside the control of the Chinese government. The Jews made a deal with the Japanese - NOT the Chinese - to bring their countrymen to Shanghai - no visa required, and no restrictions. "China" was not involved in that decision, and had nothing to say about it. These stories about China being a friend to the Jews during the war, is an attempt to rewrite history - to pretend that China has forgotten all about the Jewish opium trafficking (or that it never really existed, or that the Jews were never involved) and that everyone was good friends. That is not how it was. We would ask why, if China and the Jews were such "comrades in suffering", were the Jews kicked out of China after the war, and all their assets confiscated? That's not what you do to your friends, but rather to your enemies. Readers should also be aware that the Jews, including perhaps Jacob Schiff, who financed Japan in its war with Russia, were quite possibly also financing the Japanese invasion of China. Japan did not have enough money to finance its invasion of all Asia, and much would have been borrowed - most likely from these same people. And this would explain the easy leverage the Jews had with the Japanese, since few others were immigrating to China at the time. This article and others like it, are an attempt to badly twist a very important part of China's history. One can only speculate about the discussions or payments that brought about these articles.
